17th March

Today I carried on making my long sleeve pencil dress toile. Once I put what I had made so far on the mannequin, I realised that I had sewn the front of the waistband upside down, so I unpicked it and sewed it the right way. It now fit nicely to the mannequin, and I asked one of the second year students to try it on so that I could see it on a person. When it was on her, me and Nicky had a look and noticed that front bodice needed a centimetre taking out at the neckline so I altered my pattern. I had also gathered one side of the bust and sewn a dart into the other, so I could see which I preferred. I decided I will gather the bust on my final garment. I also created and attached a sleeve which went fine. In the afternoon, I started my tea dress pattern. I wanted to try and be independent with it and attempted the top section alone but then Nicky had to give me a few pointers. I plan to finish this tomorrow.

I also scanned in my fabric swatches to put on my design sheets. I printed one out to see how it looked but it came out as a completely different colour than it looked on the computer. I plan to test this again tomorrow and see how it comes out.
